Mituhiko Araki, who has been Editor for Control System Applications since March 2000, is retiring from his position with Automatica effective with this issue, due to increased administrative responsibilities he has taken on at his university. For the last eight years, we have seen a steady growth in submissions to Automatica in control system applications, for which the credit goes to Dr. Araki. Prior to becoming an editor for Automatica, he already had an association with the journal, as associate editor, starting in 1998. I thank him for his service and contributions to Automatica all these years, and wish him well in his future endeavors. As Mituhiko’s successor, I am pleased to announce that Toshiharu Sugie is taking over the editorship of this area, again effective with this issue. Toshiharu has had a long association with Automatica as an associate editor in two different subject areas, and as can be seen from his short biography below, he has had editorial experience with several other international journals as well. I welcome him to the Editorial Board of Automatica in this new capacity.
His research interests are in robust control, nonlinear control, identification for control, and their application to mechanical systems. He published a few books, one of which won the Best Book Award from the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, Japan (SICE) in 1994. He also received Best Paper Awards from SICE in 1994, 2000, 2003 and 2007, and from the Institute of Systems, Control and Information Engineers, Japan in 1991 and 1998. Dr. Sugie has served as Associate Editor of Automatica since 1998. He was also an Associate Editor of the Asian Journal of Control (1998–2005) and the International Journal of Systems Science (2003–2005). He is an IEEE Fellow. Editor-in-Chief |
